Digital Media Lab, Instructor: Renee D. Lauzon
$150, $135 BCA Members
Explore the history and technical aspects of field recording and sound art. Guided “soundwalks” with a portable digital recorder will provide raw material to compose soundscapes, experimental music, and/or sound-sculptures. This three-day workshop will take you through a practical step-by-step practice. After uploading our sound objects, we will go over basic elements and vocabulary of sound, including spatiality, timbre, attack, decay, reverberation, EQ’ing, and more. From arrangement, editing, looping, to using plug-ins, automation, and mastering, students will gain a productive, creative, and practical understanding of sound art. Portable digital recording devices will be provided.
Renee D. Lauzon is an interdisciplinary new media artist who works in video, sound art, text, and installation. She lives and works in Burlington, VT.
