Lipke’s installations combine sculpture, sound, video, photography and poetry, The convergence of these often segregated art forms and her encompassing approach to complex concepts are trademarks of her work. Kathryn Lipke’s work spans the natural and built worlds, finding connections in the materials and forms of each, and using their duality to point to the strange suspension of humanity between them. Her recent work addresses a range of environmental themes: the scarcity of fresh water, the perils of climate change, and the complex relationship of agriculture, energy, and hunger. While each of these issues could easily dominate a body of work, Lipke threads them together in a web of works that invite viewers to see themselves as embedded in the environment and participants in its future
