Stardust: A Story of Love and Architecture is about the personal and professional partnership of Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown. Through interviews, archival footage, and a lifetime of shared ideas, the film explores their creative collaboration challenging the prevailing ideals of modernism, and their belief in finding architectural meaning in the ordinary, complex, and every day. Spearheading Postmodernism, they famously countered Mies van der Rohe’s “less is more” with “less is a bore”, and embraced historical ornamentation, pop culture, and the vernacular landscape. Stardust also portrays the sexism that denied Scott Brown full recognition for her contributions, offering a revealing perspective on both their work and the architectural profession.
