Applications Open for BCA's Youth Artist Apprenticeship Program 

Applications Open from May 12th to June 15th 

The BCA Artist Apprenticeship Program is a paid four-week public art residency for Burlington-based youth ages 16–21 who are interested in expanding their creative practice through collaborative mural-making. Led by artists Juniper Creative in partnership with Burlington City Arts, the program offers hands-on experience in public art, collaborative design, and environmental storytelling. 

Selected apprentices will work alongside professional artists to design and create a new mural exploring the often-hidden systems that bring clean water to our community, protect Lake Champlain, and support a resilient environment. Participants will learn about the interconnected infrastructure of reservoirs, pipes, pumps, sewers, and storm drains while exploring how public art can communicate ideas around environmental stewardship and community resilience. 

Throughout the program, apprentices will gain experience in mural production from concept development through installation, while building skills in teamwork, creative problem-solving, project development, and large-scale artmaking. Prior mural experience is not required, but applicants should have a baseline of creative expression and an interest in exploring new artistic mediums. 

Program sessions will take place Tuesday–Thursday, 10:00 AM–3:30 PM, from July 14 through August 6 at the BCA Center. Participation in the full program is required. 

Program Details: 

Open to Burlington-based youth ages 16–21 

No prior mural experience required 

Maximum of 8 apprentices will be selected 

Participants will receive a $1,000 stipend, paid in two installments 

Participants must have a Social Security Number and be able to submit a W-9 form to receive payment 

Applications will be selected after June 15th, and all applicants will be notified shortly after that date
