VERT MONT

Ben Butler

March 2026, reclaimed mixed hardwoods, wood dye, and paint

Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport

Commissioned by Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport

Composed of thousands of vertically stacked, recycled rough-cut wooden sticks, VERT MONT transforms sweeping Green Mountain vistas into a richly tactile, low-relief landscape. Across multiple panels, the work evokes shifting seasons, light, and weather, while the reclaimed wood’s natural grain, scars, and imperfections carry the traces of its former life, grounding the landscape in lived history. Encircling the viewer in a mountainous panorama, the installation celebrates Vermont’s natural wonder and reflects a commitment to sustainable building practices.
