In his acclaimed filmmaking debut, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson presents a powerful and transporting documentary – part music film, part historical record – based on an epic event that celebrated Black history, culture and fashion. In the summer of 1969, Mount Morris Park (just 100  miles south of Woodstock), some of the world’s greatest musicians gathered for the Harlem Cultural Festival. Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly & the Family Stone, B.B. King, and Mavis Staples & Mahalia Jackson performed, among others. Mixing electrifying performance footage with contemporary context, Thompson creates a thrilling film, which won both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.
