Melissa Mielens, hailed in reviews for her “eloquence” and “ethereal flute lines,” is the principal flutist for the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and the Vista Philharmonic. She has toured abroad with various orchestras, including Japan with the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra, the United Kingdom with the New World Symphony, and more. She has also been a prizewinner in several national and regional competitions, including the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition and the Pappoutsakis Flute Competition. Her playing has been featured on numerous radio stations, with live performances on WGBH and WVPR. 

Anne Janson has been second flutist the Vermont Symphony Orchestra since 1983; she also substitutes as principal flute and piccolo, and is a member  of a VSO Woodwind Trio that plays in schools throughout Vermont as part of the “Musicians in Schools” outreach program. Ms. Janson received a Bachelor of Music Degree from the Hartt School of Music and a Master of Music Degree from the Manhattan School of Music. Anne lives in Ferrisburgh with her husband Andrew Wormer.  They are both passionate sailors and skiers.
