Sip your coffee and start Sunday on a high note throughout July and August with Sunday Classical!
Sylvia is an all-female quartet comprised of Vermont musicians Kathy Andrew and Laura Markowitz on violins, Ana Ruesink on viola and Jiwon Lee on cello. Sylvia first came together to honor women’s history month in March 2025. The quartet immersed themselves in women’s compositions from the 1600s to the present day, performing a series of concerts in Vermont with a repertoire that spans centuries and continents, from Italian Baroque composer Barbara Strozzi and French Impressionist Germaine Tailleferre to contemporary composers like Australian Alice Chance and American Rhiannon Giddens.
Introducing audiences to this profoundly beautiful music, often composed under great odds, made Sylvia even more devoted to exploring women’s music. And they’re eager to share their passion with new audiences!
