Twilight Block Party: The Discussions with Jon McBride's Big Easy
City Hall Park - in the case of rain Contois Auditorium

Join us every other Saturday for the sunset shindig of the season at the Twilight Block Party! Burlington's newest downtown event merges the best of Twilight and the BTV Market with music, vendors, art activities, small bites and more. Weekly vendor map coming soon.

5PM: Kick off the evening with Jon McBride’s Big Easy traversing the roots of funk music–early jazz, blues, gospel, and Caribbean styles–playing songs that have entertained audiences for generations. Their skillful musicianship is rooted in jazz and blues traditions but draws on varied experience and eclectic taste, yielding a unique and modern approach to these storied melodies. Captivating group interaction and melodic improvisation leave listeners and dancers of all ages hungry for more.

Introducing a distinct sound to the evening with their original instrumental ensemble, Burlington-based The Discussions balance highly arranged compositions with psychedelic and ambient exploration. Led by composer Greg Rothwell, their sound incorporates a cinematic approach, using techniques of minimalism, and stylings of jazz, rock, and new age creating a layered sound. The Discussions treat their music like movie scores, invoking imagery and building from beginning to end as if following the arc of a story line.
