Twilight Series: Alex Stewart Phunktet (w/ Paul Asbell Quartet)

Saxophonist Alex Stewart’s Phunktet hits hard with original compositions as well as music by funk luminaries Tower of Power, Chaka Khan, Ohio Players, and others. For this special Jazz Lab edition of BCA’s Twilight Series, the Stewart presents the debut performance of vocalist Rachel Ambaye alongside a lineup that features Eric Hoh (bass and vocals), Caleb Bronz (drums), Geoff Kim (guitar), Tom Gershwin (trumpet), Tim Sessions (trombone), Jake Whitesell (baritone and alto sax), and Evan Allen (keyboards). 

 

Opener: Paul Asbell Quartet, 6:30 pm

Having performed alongside Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Paul Butterfield, Mary McCaslin, Bobby McFerrin, and other legends, Paul Asbell is one of Vermont’s most accomplished musicians. The guitarist is likewise a renowned scholar, with a pedigree of students ranging from Phish’s Trey Anastasio to Anais Mitchell.
